People with Pets Outreach Project is contacted by area social workers that have patients that have pets that need to be cared for. After the social worker exhausts all options of trying to find family members, friends or associates to help care for the pets they reach out to us so that the patient can receive the care they need. Since this is a newly recognized social dilemma there are not many statistics available regarding the percentages of patients that will choose to leave the hospital against medical advice. However, in the 9 years that we have been helping to fill this void, we have recognized that this scenario is much more common than one would think.
