In 2014 a social worker at a local hospital reached out to a pet sitting company. Her patient had been hospitalized for a few days and she just found out that her patient had a cat left behind at home and had no family or friends that could help care for her cat while she was hospitalized. Her patient was also on a fixed income with no spare funds to employ a pet sitting service to care for her cat. The pet sitting service got her patient set up for service and cared for her cat until she was able to be released from the hospital and return home.
And that is how the People with Pets Outreach Project began. One phone call 5 years ago uncovered a need that has always been there and a need that will keep on being needed.
People with pets enter the hospital every day and sometimes those people don’t have anyone to help care for their pets.
We believe that no one should be forced to choose between their health and the welfare of their pet.
